Casey Anthony, Octomom Among the Most Hated People In America: 'People Hate a ...

The hard-partying 25-year-old was cleared of murder charges in July, in a verdict that stunned and outraged the millions who were transfixed by her trial.

The survey published by E-Poll Market Research, an affiliate of Nielsen, found that 53 percent of the 1,100 respondents were aware of Anthony, and among those, 94 percent answered "total dislike" to describe their opinion of her.

Spencer Pratt, the villian with the flesh-colored beard on MTV's "The Hills," ranked just behind Anthony on the list (88 percent answered "total dislike"), and Octomom Nadya Suleman, at 87 percent, came in third.

Rounding out the top five are O.J. Simpson -- who, like Anthony, is widely believed to have gotten away with murder -- and Jon Gosselin, formerly of the TLC reality show "Jon & Kate Plus 8."

Author and journalist John Bowe, who profiled Suleman for The New York Times in January 2009, thinks that who we collectively hate says more about us than it does the targets of our vitriol.

While researching the story -- "The Octomom and Her Babies Prepare for Prime Time" -- Bowe spent time with Suleman and her 14 children (the octuplets and their six siblings) in their Southern  home while a film crew documented them for a reality series.

Upon first getting to know her, he told himself, "Okay, so this woman's crazy, but there are millions of crazy people." Why do we fixate on Octomom?

"The hatred of [Suleman] exposed so much real misogyny," Bowe told IBTimes. "People hate a single mother," he said, noting that Suleman used a sperm donor and in vitro fertilization to conceive the octuplets.  The Octomom's dependence on government assistance and apparent cosmetic surgery "made it okay to hate her," he added.

As the "Most-Hated" list illustrates (three of the top five have been on reality television), so-called ordinary people who actively pursue fame for something other than genuine (or any) talent set themselves up for public revulsion -- even while they are being rewarded with a rapt audience and material gain, often provided by the very same people who claim to despise them.

Nadya Suleman hit the national media after she gave birth to eight children in one delivery in January 2009. The media sources call her Octomom, but she has one more reason to be in news than her eight children. She resembles Angelina Jolie lot and this is another reason for her being so much famous. Suleman is just second lady in United States to give to eight children in just one delivery. Prior to her, it was Chukwu who had set this record in 1998. It was indeed a very rare case because it is almost impossible for any lady to feed eight children in her belly. The other astonishing thing is that the entire babies remained save and alive and none of them was weak or sick. The Medical Board of California had also set a board for investigation. While, for doctors, it was like a miracle, the general public however did not give her any tribute. They were criticizing her why did she produce these eight extra children if she already had six children at home.

The media sources wrote articles about her and mentioned that she had no sources of income and was unemployed. All of these surgery reports about the Octomom are true. She has also started appearing on the talk shows.
