LARKIN TOWNSHIP — A Michigan native many people remember as a contestant on ABC's popular shows "The Bachelorette" and "The Bachelor" has been in the Midland area this week to host the new HGTV show "Showhouse Showdown," featuring two houses built by Freeland-based Cobblestone Homes.

Cobblestone co-owner Mark Wahl said Guiney made a stop at the Midland County Fair on Thursday night and has served as the local tour guide for the show's production crew, as a native of southern Michigan.

"He is a great host, very cordial to everyone," Wahl said. "He said this is like being home. He's the only one on the production crew from Michigan."

Two houses built by Cobblestone Homes were selected in a nationwide search for the show and the public is invited for a reception and episode taping from 1-4 p.m. Saturday.

The homes are located at 3339 E. Shady Ridge Drive and 3479 E. Shady Ridge Drive and parking and shuttle service is available from Larkin Township Hall, 3027 N. Jefferson Ave.

The homes serve as the staging areas for a competition between two Michigan-based interior designers who go head-to-head with similar budgets and are judged by members of the public in the episode. The first 100 visitors to the houses can vote for their favorite designer and a winner is announced at the end of the reception.

Refreshments will be available and local radio station WIOG is broadcasting from the reception, Wahl said. The entire Cobblestone team also will be on hand, he said.

Wahl said it has been "crazy" at the homes the past week and both designers have been working 18 hours a day for the past five days to prepare them for the competition.

"(The houses) will be done in the night tonight," he said.

After the filming is complete, both houses are going to be for sale through Cobblestone Homes, Wahl said. They are available for $575,000 with the furnishings from the designers or for $545,000 unfurnished.
