Transformation: Longview fire house becomes women's boutique

The relocation of Longview’s Cherry Hill & Co. from the downtown area to a former fire station on Judson Road represents more than a move.

Owner Alicia Nolte said her vision for the future of the 20-year-old women’s wear and accessory boutique is much grander than its past. The new Cherry Hill encompasses the preservation of a nearly 50-year-old city landmark, an expanded showroom with a whole new look and with a number of added amenities and services.

Cherry Hill esthetician Mary McDowell will offer clients a variety of spa-style services from spray tans to eyelash extensions.

But the transformation and changes do not stop there.

Beyond the crisp and chic look of what had been the City of Longview’s Fire Station No. 6 since the 1960s is a former residence directly behind the station — to be named The Station — that will house a florist shop, a salon to help provide pampering services for East Texas women and a soon-to-be landscaped outdoor venue that can be rented for receptions, parties and perhaps even weddings, Nolte said.

Landscape designer Shelly Potter is working on providing the “go green” look Nolte hopes to achieve in the The Station’s outdoor venue.

Nolte said she had a strong vision for what she wanted the former fire station to look like. With the help of contractor and interior designer Jonn Spradlin, she said that dream has become a reality.

Accented with recessed display areas and lighting, the liberal use of mirrors and unique chandaliers and sconces, Nolte said she feels the new Cherry Hill & Co. will continue to attract its long established clientele from throughout East Texas and the Shreveport and Dallas areas.

In the past, the shop has focused mainly on small-sized fashioned.

“Now, 50 percent of our inventory is going to be jewelry, shoes and accessories,” Nolte said. And women are not the only targeted market for the new Cherry Hill, she said.

“We’re going to also carry high fashion children’s shoes and more affordable high-end fashions for women — we should have a little something for everyone.
