St. Patrick's Day is a serious day for the Irish — and most everyone else .

Dubbed the largest Irish party on the East side of Cleveland, Croagh Patrick's hosted 1,500 people last year at its halfway event.

Held Sept. 3 and 4 under a large tent at the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Willoughby on Euclid Avenue, events start at noon and run all day: bagpipes, dancers, Irish blessings and toasts — Oh — there's beer and corned beef.

“It's been huge,” owner Kevin Coyne said of his family's Irish tradition. “We grew up listening to Irish music and in an Irish community.” Coyne is joined by co-owners Robert Jackson, his brothers Seamus and McPat and his wife, Meg.

This group formerly ran Mick's Irish Pub; the new location is one half-block from there, 4857 Robinhood Drive, next to a Mr. Hero and comic book store.

Former Mick's patrons may remember Kevin, who often stood on the bar to give Irish blessings, like “May your home always be too small … to hold all your friends.”

“Yeah, that was me,” Kevin said, laughing. “The new ceiling isn't as high, but I still do it now behind the bar.” Kevin bartends Thursdays and Saturdays.
