Sewing Challenge this week was a big for me. Not only in the difficulty level, but also in keeping with the theme. You see, the ladies over Sewing Weekly (especially Mena and Debi) would be attending the Art Deco Society of California great Gatsby picnic. While I'm a fan of the time, my creations tend to have a fashion influence later by two decades. Not only that, but I'm not normally so confined by the details in a garment. The picnic was Gatsby rules.These rules consisted mainly of the terrifying (to me) online clothing afternoon from 1920 to 1940 (or reasonable Fascimile) is required. Just that one line was enough to make me so any way! In one day, I think I said "maybe I'll try" to "what I think" half a dozen times. I finally made the ultimatum ... if I can find a dress to be hiding in my model, or a dress now available at my local fabric store, so I'm in. I was originally going to use my shirt Highland hornpipe dance Sailor paired with a white skirt for a nautical look.It fell to when I was undecided on what to wear the skirt. I then went to a few other models including Vogue and Sorbetto 8241 Mena Company as a choice. Finally inspiration struck, pushed by fellow members Sew Weekly, Stacey has sent about Butterick 5417. I was pleased to see that the model was now in stores, and ran out to find the model and an appropriate tissue. Do not get me started on the challenge of finding the fabric, which is a whole nother story. Simply put, to keep appropriate period, there were many rules about what you could or could not use.Eventually I found some white satin base and a nice foam green chiffon. I've never done anything with it but I thought I had the wing. I came home so excited about the whole thing.
