Chadds Ford Days has gone to the dogs -- Downwind

Chadds Ford Days, Sept. 10 and 11, has always been a family affair, and this year they are including the four-footed members of the family also. Dogs and parking are free. On Saturday the Doggie Dress Up Parade starts from the bandstand at 11 a.m. with prizes for five categories and participation ribbons for all dressed up dogs and companion children. All dogs must have at least one adult handler. Participation is free whether dogs are really “Putting on the dog” with tutus and crowns or are more laid back with a flashy bandana. One category is “Dog-Gone Gorgeous” for best female costume and “Gone to the Dogs” for best male costume. Fancy dress for human companions is optional. There is also an open obstacle course for dogs to enjoy. Chadds Ford Days is not just about dogs. They will feature antique cars from Auburn Heights Preserve as well as local cars organized by Lou Mandich of Last Chance Garage and lots of activities for kids. They also have live music by Charlie Zahm, the Steve Liberace Band, Makin Woopie and Brandywine Country (New York City). Don’t forget the wonderful shopping for handmade crafts and the display of art by local artists from across the region. The 26th annual Mushroom Festival will be held Sept. 9 through 11. with the festival opening with a parade on Friday, Sept. 9, at 6 p.m. followed by carnival events until 11 p.m. Highlights of the festival include a cooking demonstration and book signing by Jose Garces on Saturday, Sept 10 at 1:30 p.m. in the Special Events tent (Willow and State Street). Tickets are $20 and can be printed in advance at Mushroom Festival Kennett Square. Other special events include the  Mushroom Soup Cook Off, all the vendors, the painted mushrooms (three-foot concrete mushrooms), Baby Photo Contest,  and the carnival from 3 to 11 p.m. on Saturday and 1 to 6 p.m. on Sunday.

Musical groups performing on Sept. 3 are Rory Sullivan Trio from noon to 3 p.m.
