Red Devils claim road victory over Cheyenne Central

The 2011 Red Devils football Evanston accomplished a feat no team Evanston before them had been able to defeat the Cheyenne Indians Cheyenne Central, and in the process of bridging the gap to five victories of all time against six defeats. Evanston had defeated the Thunderbirds of the East in the capital in more than one occasion, but never the Indians to Milt Riske field, or anywhere else in Cheyenne, for that matter. The Red Devils notched their third win of the season, to go with two losses, with a thrilling 30-26 victory over conference 4A Indians, who fall to one year and four years, with all four defeats at the hands of the top five teams classified, and all the close games. Evanston 3-2 record was the Red Devils only in third place, behind number one and two ranking and undefeated Mustangs Natrona County and Campbell County Camels, both 5-0 and both teams tied for second 4 -1 up with brands, the number three broncs Sheridan and number four Cheyenne East Thunderbirds.Laramie and Evanston were related, but the Plainsmen are now alone in fourth place with a 2-3 record after the fall of Campbell County. Behind them are Central and Cheyenne Rock Springs Tigers to 1-4 and the Trojans Casper Kelly Walsh and South Cheyenne Bison to 0-5. The top four teams will host playoff games after the regular season is over. Subsequently held a quarter Will Barker and Eddington, Barker and Tyler Chandler 17-yard pass connection, the Red Devils would advance the football for the 20 central and Eddington would score the first of his four touchdown passes in the night 20 meters out.Devian Curetes extra point was good and with 7:46 left in the first quarter, Evanston owned the lead first game, 7-0, their score and the name of the first half. Evanston had two fourth down conversions in the game of eight, 75 yards of scoring. He was one of the first partition on a central set of four, 53 yards, capped by Reidl taking a pass from quarterback Indian Kyler Robinson 11 yards.

The Lady Braves broke a ten-game losing streak that dated back to January by knocking off the Lady Red Devils, 42-39.  It was a game that saw Star Valley operating with the lead for most of the contest.  Their largest margin was nine points.  The Lady Devils battled back on the play of Erin Kirby who was the only player in double figures with 14.

Randi Robinson led the charge for the gals in gold, finishing with nine points.  Emily Porter chipped in seven of her own and senior Raini Wolfley, who got the start at center alongside junior Kelsea Gardner, scored six points and grabbed several key rebounds.  Klydi Brower  and Gardner also finished with six.

It was the first conference win for the Lady Braves who were ecstatic to claim a win on their home floor for Head Coach Jason Cazier.  Senior Aubrey Johnson and Wolfley joined in an emphatic hug for their coach as well.

As for the boys, it’s not a night the the Devils will point to when putting on any shooting clinics.  With the snow flying outside, Evanston found it hard to find any semblence of shooting rhythm and fell behind after a steady diet of Star Valley buckets in the paint.  In the end, the Devils were stymied by the Braves’ defense in a 60-49 home town win.  Nate Imeson dominated the glass, collecting 16 rebounds and nine points before fouling out late in the fourth quarter.

The man of the night however was fellow senior, Jon Scherbel and his season-high 27 points.  The Devils had no answer for Scherbel along the baseline as he routinely finished strong at the basket and in many cases went to the line for a free throw.  Scherbel’s previous season-high of 23 came against the Laramie Plainsmen.

Tyler Schwab gripped the ball tightly as the last few seconds ticked off the clock as the embattled seniors finished with a satisfying final win.  The five seniors played for three different head coaches in three seasons and played 17 of their 23 games against Wyoming 4A opponents.  Schwab finished with 13 points and several key rebounds as well.  Jason Livingston and Jordan Ealey rounded out an extremely satisfying win for the senior five with fine ball play.
