Which style or genre of music was your first great love?

Probably jazz.

What was the first electronic-music event that you ever attended, and what did you think at the time?

Fabric in London. Was amazing. I can’t exactly remember the artists playing. But it was most likely a Friday night, as I am a huge drum and bass fan. So it was probably Fabio and Grooverider in one room. Then maybe Plump DJs in the other.

How have your musical tastes changed since you were a teenager?

I think I have a bigger appreciation and understanding for more types of music now. Throughout the teenager period, I really started to research and be interested in pretty much all genres and types of music.

What was the last record (or MP3) you bought?

Last 12” I got was Mr. Beatnick’s ” Synthetes ” on the awesome label Don’t Be Afraid .

How many tracks or records do you typically acquire every week—both promos & purchases?

Promos is ridiculous, I get sent too many. I have been trying to organize myself better with all the promos I get sent. I don’t like to just play what I am being sent by other people, as it’s not really me choosing what music I play. So I still buy MP3s online and I still love to go vinyl shopping too. But I would say once I go through all the promos each week, plus MP3 shopping, plus 12” records, I usually try to focus and have about 20 new tracks a week. Tracks that I am really into and I want to play out. Any more, I think it gets too confusing at times.

What format do you DJ with?

Sometimes Traktor, sometimes just CDs. I don’t usually physically play out my vinyl as I don’t buy enough vinyl to warrant traveling with it. I’m only buying, say, four or five records a week. I like Traktor as it’s compact and travel-friendly. So it seems silly to me to carry a few pieces of vinyl as well as the Traktor setup. So I rip my vinyl into the computer as WAVs.
