Show overflows with wedding ideas
GODFREY - Prospective brides, and at least one groom, wandered the Commons at Lewis and Clark Community College Sunday, looking for ideas and services for their weddings.
Bridal Show 2012, sponsored by The Telegraph in conjunction with the college, had 49 vendors on hand Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Amanda Carlisle, 23, of Wood River is getting married this year, although no date has been set. She was with her friend, Sara Loyet, 24, of Granite City, who got engaged Friday.
Carlisle said she liked the idea of bags from Thirty-One for her bridesmaids. She also was the winner of a $25 gift certificate from Carol Frew's Bridal.
Owner John Frew said the store's e-commerce division "has 40,000 products. It's the biggest bridal shop on the planet."
Julia Brown was dealing with a power outage at her booth, Permanent Great Looks, even as two stylists continued to work.
"We can handle any disaster, even a power outage," she said, laughing.
Brown said the salon and spa play host to bridal showers and bachelorette parties and will travel to locations as well.
"Typically, brides will have their hair and nails done, but we also do airbrush makeup, pedicures and manicures and airbrush tans. The big things now are permanent makeup and eyelash extensions."
Gary Wasylak, 60, of Wood River, was there with Fe Gurley. The two are inviting 120 to their Aug. 4 wedding.
"We have a $10,000 budget and decided to hire a wedding planner," he said. "It makes it easier this way. I work and Fe doesn't have to run around; someone else can do that."
Wasylak said the two have chosen a photographer and will probably go with Ravanelli's in Granite City as their caterer.
A new trend for weddings is having a photo booth on site. They can be used for any occasion but are becoming popular at weddings, Melissa Hurlahe said. She was working the booth with a photographer from Capture Photography in East Carondelet.
