From their house overlooking Mock Crest Park , Doug and Jeanne Wilson say there's never a dull moment.

There was the wedding on stilts. The group dressed as gnomes. The drum circles. The marching band performance. The guy playing a saw with a bow.

"You see all kinds of odd stuff," says Doug Wilson, who has lived in his home since 1984. "I should do a blog, cause really, it is entertaining."

When the weather heats up, people flock to the parklet -- an area commonly referred to as the Skidmore Bluffs -- in North Portland's Overlook neighborhood. The lookout captures the rolling Willamette River, the West Hills, the rail yard and Portland's city skyline to the south.

But the influx of visitors also means more headaches for locals who have complained of vandalism, trash and people drinking, doing drugs, relieving themselves on residents' property or being noisy late into the night.

From May to Aug. 20, police responded to 23 calls at the park, according to the Portland Police Bureau . Some of the calls, 15 of which were between 8 p.m. and 4 a.m., sought extra patrols for issues such as unwanted persons or noise complaints.

It's a result of the place being one of the best worst-kept secrets in Portland to enjoy a warm summer's night. Bicyclists cart in blankets and bottles of wine. Others walk into the park carrying boom boxes and pizza boxes for evening picnics. Though locals once predominantly used it, the park has become a destination spot since local publications, including the Portland Mercury and Willamette Week , featured the park in recent years.

Now, the secret's out.

The area has its own Yelp page . There are YouTube videos capturing performances at the park. And, when the mercury rises, neighbors can count anywhere between 100 and 300 people at one time.

Steve Lanigan, who lives around the corner from the park, says the park-goers are mellow, for the most part.
