Audi twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8: In Depth
We are eagerly awaiting the chance to see the range S in Frankfurt, but in the meantime, Audi has released new details about the twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8.
Developed in conjunction with Bentley, the mill aluminum-intensive conventional banks a 90 degree cylinder, a charge air intercooler and an exhaust system peak. These are some nice touches, but the real story is "roll on-demand" technology that shuts down four cylinders when maximum performance is required. Audi believes this improves energy efficiency by almost 5%, while reducing emissions by 10 to 12 g / km.If this is not impressive enough, there is also a start / stop system that cuts CO2 emissions by as much as 24 g / km.
To reduce NVH (noise, vibration and harshness), the motor is active on the mountains that detects vibrations and uses a vibration meter to limit the movement of the engine. Similarly, the system of active noise control uses four microphones to detect the "disturbing components" in the cabin and removed by sending sound through the opposition speakers.
As noted above, the engine develops 420 hp (309 kW / 414 hp) and 550 Nm (406 lb.-ft.) of torque in the S6 and S7.It allows cars to accelerate from 0-100 km / h in 4.8 and 4.9 seconds respectively.
The S8, the other other hand, has 520 hp (382 kW / 513 hp) and 650 Nm of torque (479 lb.-ft.) of torque. This allows the car to rocket from 0-100 km / h in 4.2 seconds, before hitting an electronically limited 250 km / h (155 mph).
