ICDC College Graduate Success Story Featured in Woman's Day Magazine
Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) August 22, 2011
Mary Price, a graduate of ICDC College's Alcohol and Drug Counseling program, is featured in the September 2011 issue of Woman's Day Magazine, on newsstands across the country. Woman's Day selected six women between the ages of 38-69 years of age to profile; women who changed their lives after overcoming serious life challenges and in the process found a new sense of overall purpose and satisfaction. A resident of Bellflower, California, and a high school graduate, Ms. Price decided to go back to school at the age of 69 to become a qualified substance abuse counselor. She completed her training at ICDC College's Huntington Park campus and ICDC helped her get a job at a treatment facility in Los Angeles, California.
After raising her six children, Ms. Price, who had no prior history of alcohol or drug use, became addicted to drugs during her 40's. She became a "functional addict", hiding an addiction that went undetected by her employer and family members. Three days after the fateful day of September 11, 2001, Ms. Price decided to turn herself around, and checked herself into a residential treatment facility to start her road to recovery. After celebrating almost nine years of sobriety, Ms. Price decided to enroll in ICDC College's Alcohol and Drug Counseling program to help others get clean and sober and live their lives more purposefully.
"It is challenging for a woman of my age to decide to go back to school and change careers, so it took a lot of determination and it wasn't always easy," says Ms. Price. "With the help of ICDC College, I was able to further my education and start a new career as a substance abuse counselor; a profession where I can use my training and personal experiences to help change people's lives."
Through ICDC College's Career Services Department, Ms. Price completed her externship at Bernie's Lil Women's Center in South Central Los Angeles and was later hired there as an Alcohol and Drug Counselor. Bernie's Lil Women's Center is a treatment facility established in 2004 by Ms. Bernie Goudeau, a registered nurse for over 30 years, who decided to start a center to help pregnant women overcome their addiction and deliver their babies drug-free and sober. Ms. Goudeau has since hired seven ICDC College Alcohol and Drug Counseling graduates and the facility has expanded to serve men, women and teens. Best Accounting Techniques For Small Businesses
Keeping accurate business records is imperative for any business. Especially, if you own a small business you have to be able to know at any time how your business is doing in order to improve areas that need possible improvement and maintain profitable the areas that do really well.
Accounting to any business may also be costly if you don’t make the right decision. And the right decision is almost always related to affordability. Do you afford to pay an accountant to keep your business records up to date? This is perhaps the best choice for you because you will always file your taxes on time and you eliminate the possibility of penalty and interest rate charges by the IRS. Besides, by letting the accountant do the job, you have the time to focus on other aspects of your business.
On the other hand, if you cannot afford an accountant, you would need to keep your accounting records using a computerized accounting package.
It easy, straightforward and you can save both time and money into learning it and using it, while ensuring accurate business records.
In particular:
a) Hiring an accountant
Qualified accountants are generally expensive to hire. If your business is small with few transactions and you are not making big profits, it doesn’t make sense to hire a full-time accountant. After a while, the accountant’s salary will be 2-times your business’ profits. Alternatively, you can hire a part-time bookkeeper or a freelancer to keep your books. Another option is to outsource your bookkeeping to a professional accounting firm. These options will guarantee complete financial statements at the end of each fiscal year and timely filing of your tax return to the IRS.
b) Using an accounting software
Nowadays, many small business owners do their own accounting due to the existence of computerized accounting packages.
